Ellen Marshall
Ellen became interested in working with glass more than 30 years ago. She started working in stained glass- making windows, lamps, and various glass structures. About 6 years ago, Ellen began to take workshops in different aspects of glass fusing. A workshop with Avery Anderson and Brock Craig focused on sandblasting using a photo transfer method, including a variety of fusing techniques. One with Patty Grey involved strip cutting and working with thick glass. Another workshop was in mold making with Roger Nachman. She has also attended several workshops at the Hot Glass Horizons conference in Corning, NY.
Recently she has become a member of the International Glass Guild of America. Ellen has participated in the Artists Open Studio of Northeast Connecticut for the last three years and the Wesleyan Potters Christmas Show and Sale, this past year. Her work can be seen at Swift Waters Artisans' Cooperative in Willimantic, CT or at her studio in Columbia.
Ellen makes a variety of creations such as jewelry, bowls, and platters, using different glass fusing techniques. She also flattens wine and liquor bottles to make Flottles TM and Flootles, which are dishes used to serve food or candy on, or put candles in.
The challenge of creating with glass is a joyful and serendipitous experience for Ellen. She feels that there are always new techniques to learn and the potential of a myriad of different creations to make from the glass.
