Basket Making
The art of basketry first stole my heart in the summer of 2001. At the time it was a new art form for me to explore, one that I quickly came to learn was hard to find. I love the connection it provides us to the past and how useful, functional and beautiful they are. A well-cared for basket will last for generations.
Connecticut Valley Baskets was developed after my artistic exploration led me down a few paths that didn’t feel quite right. I first began selling my creations at small holiday art and craft fairs. At the time I was selling greeting cards, some of which featured my photography. After a few years I decided to pursue photography a bit further and began the transition to selling predominately digital prints. Digital photography is still very much a part of my portfolio, in fact all of the photographs you see throughout this site were taken by me.
Basketry didn’t make it’s way to center stage until I began showing my artistic creations in galleries. My first few gallery pieces were photographs. I was blessed to have a couple solo shows and participated in many groups shows at various galleries. One autumn I spoke with the gallery director and decided to weave a few baskets for their autumn show. Everything fell into place and before I knew it Connecticut Valley Baskets was taking shape right before my eyes.
